Hairdressing - Senior Trades - City and Guilds Diploma

A student who achieves a QQI Level 5 Award and Junior Trades in Hairdressing in Year 1, may qualify to enter Hairdressing Year 2 and study for Senior Trades & City & Guilds qualifications at GTI. Having completed Senior Trades a graduate may enter the industry as a Senior Improver.

This course is designed to:

Provide students who wish to have a career in hairdressing with the range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed in this rewarding area of the beauty industry.

Entry Requirements:
  • Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, or equivalent

  • QQI Level 5 in Hairdressing or equivalent

  • Interview

  • Mature applicants welcome

Course Structure:

Year 2 awards Certification in Senior Trades Examination Department of Education & Skills & Diploma in Women's and Men's Hairdressing - City & Guilds

Course Content:
  • Follow health and safety practice in the salon

  • Client consultation for hair services

  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon

  • Cut Women's Hair

  • Colour and lighten hair

  • Cut men's hair

  • Cut facial hair

  • Create an image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector

  • Plaiting and Twisting

Optional Modules:

Learners may also have the opportunity to study Maths as an extra module.

Certification:

Year 2 offers certification in Senior Trades Examination (Department of Education & Skills) & (Diploma in Women's and men's Hairdressing - City & Guilds)

Duration:

This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

Adult Education:

Full-time registered students of GTI may access a range of adult education courses at a reduced fee.
