Hairdressing and Barbering Year 2 - Senior Trades - City and Guilds

A student who has achieved a QQI Level 5 Award and/or Junior Trades in Hairdressing in Year 1 or has relevant hairdressing experience, may qualify to enter Hairdressing Year 2 and study for Senior Trades & City & Guilds qualifications at GTI. Having completed Senior Trades, a graduate may enter the industry as a Senior Improver.

This course will provide students who wish to have a career in hairdressing with the range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed in this rewarding area of the hairdressing industry. Entry Requirements:
  • Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, or equivalent

  • QQI Level 5 in Hairdressing or equivalent

  • Pre-entry guidance meeting

  • Mature applicants welcome

  • Relevant Industry Experience

Course Structure:

Year 2 Awards Certification in Senior Trades Examination Department of Education & Skills & Diploma in Women's Hairdressing Level 2 - City & Guilds Candidates who have achieved Level 2 City & Guilds, may register for Level 3 City & Guilds.

  • Working in Hairdressing
  • Maintain Health & Safety in the Salon Client Consultation for Hairdressing Services
  • Shampoo and Condition the Hair and Scalp
  • Cut Women's Hair
  • Style & Dress Women's Hair
  • Colour Hair
  • Perm & Neutralise Hair
  • Plaiting & Twisting
  • Promote Products and Services to Clients
  • Creative Styling
  • Hairdressing Science
Optional Modules:

Learners may also have the opportunity to study Maths as an extra module.

Certification:

Year 2 offers certification in Senior Trades Examination (Department of Education & Skills) and City & Guilds Level 2 or 3.

Duration:

This is a full-time one-year course and runs from September to May.

Adult Education:

Full-time registered students of GTI may access a range of adult education courses at a reduced fee.
