GTI Business Student receives an Irish Water Safety Award

Rian Heaney, a Business Studies student at Galway Technical Institute recently received an award from the Irish Water Safety for his recent research. As part of his studies, Rian had a particular interest in helping Irish Water Safety to conduct research that would help to raise awareness about water safety. Rian chose to conduct this research in the farming community and to this end created a questionnaire that he brought to the National ploughing Championships where he spent two days walking around and interviewing farmers about their attitudes to water safety and their behaviours around dangerous aquatic environments on farms. His sixteen pages of research and recommendations will now be used to inform practical marketing interventions to reach this at-risk group. Irish Water Safety is the statutory body established to promote drowning prevention water safety initiatives in Ireland. Minister Michael Ring recently presented an Irish Water Safety award to Rian for assisting Irish Water Safety with their drowning prevention initiatives.
