Course Name: Creative Writing Intermediate
Course Overiview: This course is for those interested in any type of creative writing, short stories, novels, memoir or poetry.
Being an Intermediate class, it is most suitable for those who have participated in creative writing classes before or begun to think about publishing individual stories or poems in magazines, or entering their work in writing competitions. We will look at basic issues such as how to get started; how to generate ideas, discovering and honing our own unique voice. Exercises will help us to learn about character development, use of figures of speech dialogue, and so on.
Students will share their work with the class and receive constructive feedback in an atmosphere of mutual support and interest.
The first part of each class is devoted to instruction.
In the second part, students read their homework assignments aloud and receive feedback from the instructor and the class.
An atmosphere of trust and mutual encouragement is built during these workshop sessions. Over the eight weeks the tutor will lead participants through the following aspects of Creative Writing:
- Techniques for forming ideas and getting started.
- How to create characters
- The importance of sound in poetry
- Engaging the reader's five senses
- Stream of conciousness writing Using figures of speech
- Learning through imitating published writers
- How to edit and present your writing
Students will receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of course.
