Course Overview
GTI have teamed up again with Galway Bay FM and GK Media to bring you their 3rd exclusive Online Radio & Sound Production Course. This part-time course is designed for those who have an interest or want to pursue a career in radio, but are not in a position to commit to a daytime course. The majority of modules are delivered online through blended learning, allowing participants to engage with the course during their own time each week. This fully certified QQI Level 5 award gives participants the opportunity to pursue third-level studies in this area or if they want to start a career in radio now, this course also offers work placement on Galway Bay FM’s new online podcast station. Places are limited. Early booking is recommended.
Course Content
Entry Requirements:
QQI Level 4, minimum of 17 years of age at time of registration, Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied, Equivalent qualifications from other countries, relevant life experiences, relevant work experiences and mature students.

There will be 4 hours of tutorials/online material provided each week, with participants expected to allocate extra time themselves to develop a portfolio and complete assignments.

Tutor Biography
Garry Kelly has been working in both local and national radio since 2007. He is managing director of GK Media Ltd producing digital content and providing marketing solutions for SMEs throughout Ireland and the UK. The company has a slate of 50+ ongoing clients and their work includes adverts, corporate videos, podcasts, marketing workshops, etc.
In February 2007, Garry started working as a Sound Engineer in Galway Bay FM. Two weeks later he was hosting his own weekend show. Over the past 11 years, Garry has produced and presented a number of shows for the radio station. He worked as a co-host on the Breakfast Show for 4 years, produced the specialist shows for a number of years, and also [roduced hHe Keith Finnegan Show and worked in the News Department. He also worked in the Sports Department and presented a weekly Sports Show for 9 years. He currently produces a weekly 2hr music show promoting contemporray Irish music. This folows on from the success of ORGANICS Music, which was a monthly FREE 60min podcast available via iTunes, which featured a collection of songs by contemporary Irish musicians both signed & unsigned. The podcast reached over 65,000 global downloads in its first year.
Over the years his company has also produced podcasts for University Limerick, Vodafone Comeday Carnival, Galway Film Fleadh, Galway City Museum, Galway County Council, The Couch, Whitaker Institute, Ryan INstitute, and currently produces a weekly film podcast called Just Like in the Movies which is available on both iTunes Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, and Stitcher.
Garry has also interviewed many famous personalities down through the years including Mumford & Sons, Imelda May, Michael Fassbender, Jeremy Irons, Anjelica Huston, Jessica Lange, Peter O' Toole, and many others.
With the emergence of more diverse radio stations in Ireland over the past few years and the growth of online digital radio, there are more opportunities than ever before for aspiring broadcasters.
Over the duration of the course Garry will teach you the roles and functions of different radio programmes, the technical requirements, and the tools in researching, presenting, editing & producing a show. You will also get to visit a radio station and be given a basic understanding of how to operate the equipment.
