Course Overview

With the tech industry becoming one of the most trending fields in the job market, learning how to program can be one of the most important and meaningful skills. This course will teach the basic, foundation concepts of programming in an easy-to-follow manner.

This course uses the programming languages Python and Java to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of computer programming. This course is suitable for absolute beginners and individuals who have little programming experience. 

This is also an excellent preparatory course for anyone interested in studying Software full time.

Course Content

The course also provides a list of resources that you can use at any time. Resources include full-length video tutorials and external links to further information on Python and Java. 

At the end of each part of the course you will be asked to complete and submit a project. Upon successful completion of both projects GTI will issue you with a Certificate of Competence that states that you are proficient in the syllabus of this course. 

Part 1 - Python: The first part of this course uses Python to introduce students to the fundamental ideas of computer programming: sequence, selection, and iteration - as well as the many conventions that have been developed over the years. By the end of part 1 students will be completely proficient in programming in the Python programming language.

Part 2 - Java: The second part of the course uses Java to introduce students to the concept of Object-Orientated programming (classes and methods). By the end of part 2 students will be able to program in both Python and Java and, more importantly, will understand the fundamentals of computer programming.

Tutor Biography 

Mike worked for over 15 years in the software industry writing and managing computer applications for a wide range of clients in many areas of industry (banking, insurance,manufacturing,transport, etc.)before retraining as a secondary school teacher. As such, Mike brings a wide range of skills to this course.

Recently Mike has written BITS Tutorial-an IT tutorial used by secondary schools to teach students computer programming and computer science, and ProCon -a VBA application used by primary schools to monitor their pupils’ progress.

Students of this course will benefit greatly Mike’s wide range of real world experience in the IT industry,as well as his knowledge of many computer languages in use today(Python, Java, VBA[for programming Excel], HTML, PHP, and SQL).
