Early Childhood Care and Education QQI Level 5 Award Code 5M2009

The Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education QQI Level 5 is a major award made up of 8 modules and leads to a nationally recognized qualification for those wishing to pursue a career in Childcare. 6 of these modules are Compulsory and the other 2 modules can be made up from optional modules.

  • Communications 5N0690 
  • Child Development 5N1764
  • Early Care & Education Practice 5N1770 
  • Early Childhood Education & Play 5N1773 

Optional

  • Special Needs Assisting 5N1786 
  • School Aged Childcare 5N7181 
  • Creative Arts for Early Childhood 5N1769 

Each module carries a value of 15 credits, giving a total of 120 credits for the full award. Entry Requirements Leaving Certificate or equivalent, or Mature students, or work experience in a relevant area in lieu of qualification together with a strong interest in the provision of quality care and education for children. 

Students are required to have Current GRETB Garda Vetting clearance. 

Students must obtain their own work placement in a registered setting. Students must have 80% attendance to be entered for certification. The following is the timetable for September 

September 2019 Modules

  • Monday - Child Health & Wellbeing 5N1765 - 23rd Sept. 2019 6.30-9.00pm (Compulsory)
  • Tuesday - Work Experience & Communications 5N1356 & 5N0690 - 24th Sept. 2019 6.30-9.30pm (Compulsory)
  • Tuesday / Wednesday - Special Needs Assisting QQI 5N1786 - 24th / 25th Sept 2019 7.00-10.00pm (Optional)
  • Wednesday - School Aged Childcare QQI 5N7181 - 25th Sep 6.30-9.30pm (Optional)

January 2020 Modules (These will be offered at a discounted rate of €200 for those taking the full award)

  • Child Development 5N1764 (Compulsory)
  • Creative Arts for Early Childhood 5N1769 (Optional)
  • Early Care & Education Practice 5N1770 (Compulsory)
  • Early Childhood Education & Play 5N1773 (Compulsory)

Students must complete 120 hours of work placement in a Registered Setting (TUSLA) to attain the Work Experience module. Students must pass both sections of the Work Experience module In order to gain the final award (including work experience placement). Placement contact is required to complete course work in most modules.
