Introduction to Music Technology.  Level 1

An introductory course aimed at computer literate students with an interest in sound, sound design, electronic arts, and the influence of modern technology on music.

this course will take into account the level of the students and interests among a particular group 

Topics which can be included could be: 

However if the students are interested in different related topics these will be considered on the opening night 

A over view of digital audio workstations (how to make music at home on your computer) (DAWS) ( Logic Protools Reaper etc)

Discussion on Modern Music Concepts (MIDI etc)

Open Source (free) Software; how to get it, how to use it

Brief history of early Electronic Arts and Music

Concepts in Acoustics and Psycho acoustics; how sound works and how we perceive sound

C sound; Coding and Music (open source*) suggestions for building your own synthesizer 

Additive Synthesis; combining sounds to create new sounds 

Detailed look at one Modern Composer 

This course will suit everybody of all ability who wishes to know more about the influence of technology on music. Technology has now moved into every art form whether we like it or not. An Introduction to Music Technology Level 1 will show, using free software, how this can lead to an endless source of new and exciting conceptual, sonic and compositional possibilities.

This course will be taught by Jimmy Fitzgerald MA. Music Technology

Tutor Biography 

Jimmy (Fitz) Fitzgerald 

 MA in Music Technology

Currently plays with the Black Magic Big Band and the Screamin Bluecats Has 4 CD releases and has worked as a session musician for RTE and musicals in the West of Ireland he also runs a home studio project called Real Life supporting and producing local musical projects.
