Accounting Technician Programme Year 1 (Part-Time) (Starts Sept 23rd) Monday

Course Description: 

Thinking about becoming an Accounting Technician? This is the course for you. Accounting Technicians Ireland qualification is your passport to a rewarding career in accountancy or business. Obtain this professional qualification in just two years. Accounting Technicians are qualified to work in many accountancy roles with strong demand for qualified accounting technicians in the workplace.

The Certificate for Accounting Technicians is designed to give you a solid grounding in business as well as a strong foundation in accountancy. It is the first step on your journey to a new and rewarding career as an Accounting Technician. The Certificate prepares you to carry out basic accounting tasks in the workplace and allows you to progress on to the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

Course Overview

The course commences Monday, 16th September, 2019. The course is delivered on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm to 10.00pm, from September 2019 to May 2020.

Entry Requirements: 

Students over 21 Years of Age - If you are over 21 years of age you can apply to enrol as a student on the basis of your age rather than on your educational background.

Students under 21 Years of Age Must Meet One of the following criteria:

  • A fully completed relevant QQI Level 5 qualification.
  • Leaving Certificate with five passes on Ordinary Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy).
  • Leaving Certificate with four passes of which at least two are on Higher Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy).

Students who have successfully completed Business Management QQI Level 6 may apply for an exemption to the Accounting Technician of Ireland. 

Students will receive a Certificate upon successful completion of Year 1. Students will receive a Diploma in Accounting Technician upon successful completion of Year 2 plus 2 years work experience.

The award is comparable to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in the Republic of Ireland.

ATI Fees & Registration

Registration/enrolment for September 2019 is now open (link below). Although the registration deadline is 25th October 2019, it is recommended that you register by early August to ensure that you receive your Course Materials before classes start in September.  The fees for 2019/2020 will be as follows:

Professional Fees

Registration fee €170 + Course Materials (€65 x 4) €260  + Exams (€75 x 4) €300 = Total €730

Registration, Course Materials and Exam fees are payable to the institute regardless of where you choose to study.  Tuition Fees are additional and must be paid to your chosen college. 

Stepped Payments

By registering online, you can pay your fees in full or avail of the stepped payment facility which will allow you to pay your fees over 3 instalments.  Stepped payments based on studying 4 subjects will be broken down as follows:

Professional Fees €730

Step 1 – €265.24 – at Registration (3% admin fee inc)

Step 2 – €243.33 – End November 2019

Step 3 – €243.33 – End January 2020

Exam Registration

It is the student’s responsibility to register directly with the Institute. Exam fees which are not included in the course fees are payable to the institute. - First Year Exams in take place in May 2020

NB. Progression into 2nd year - Diploma for Accounting Technicians

Students must have passed Taxation I, Financial Accounting 1 and at least one other subject before they can commence Year 2. 

While the Certificate for Accounting Technicians is a qualification in its own right, most of our students pursue the Diploma for Accounting Technicians and become fully qualified Accounting Technicians with increased earning power. Second year units bring you to the next level in your accounting studies. On successful completion of Second Year, you can become an Affiliate Member of ATI, and maintain your professional affiliation while you complete the work experience requirements of the qualification.

Career Opportunities

There is a great variety of work within the accounting profession with a vast array of career opportunities to suit all interests including auditing and assurance work, consulting, corporate finance, tax planning and insolvency. 

There are also opportunities in finance support roles in niche areas, including credit control, accounts payable, anti-money laundering, and some specialist roles in supply chain operations. 

Employment of accounting and financial technicians is one of the highest growth rates among business and finance occupations.
