Want to be a successful Team Leader and overcome various challenges? 

This dual qualification, Team Leadership and Conflict Management provides the knowledge and skills to understand and manage conflict situations, either at work or in group situations providing a series of tools and techniques. 

It is very practical in nature and suited to any environment where conflict, anger and hostility are encountered either by telephone or in person.

Modules: 

Team Leadership QQI Level 6 6N1948 Minor Award Certificate (15 credits)

Learners will be able to:

  1. Research the elements and stages of team development, to include different kinds of teams, a multi-team environment, the characteristics of an effective team and the need for different roles for individuals
  2. Evaluate the concepts of leadership and management, different leadership and management styles and the principal theories that underpin these, to include leadership in different contexts and environments such as mentoring, coaching, project management, the learning organisation and the debate over leadership versus management
  3. Participate in organisational planning and in teamwork planning, to include setting specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound 2 (SMART) objectives, ongoing monitoring of progress, and evaluation
  4. Distinguish between organisational strategy, objectives and goals
  5. Evaluate a range of current motivation theories and practical strategies to enhance motivation in teams
  6. Demonstrate team leadership, to include team building, supporting team members at different stages of team development, motivation strategies, interpersonal communications, time and meeting management and use of inter- and intra-team reporting structures
  7. Negotiate a plan or project with team members, to include effective delegation of tasks and responsibilities
  8. Lead progress on a work plan, to include taking corrective action to ensure successful completion of the plan, ongoing monitoring of progress, and evaluation.

Conflict Management QQI Level 6 6N2775 Minor Award Certificate (15 credits)

Learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the role, function, and forms of expression of conflict in group and organisational life
  2. Discuss the theoretical and practice dimensions of conflict management and conflict resolution in particular similarities and differences between them
  3. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of methods and strategies for managing conflict problems including solving, negotiation, passive, smoothing approach, adversarial approach, compromising, withdrawal and avoidance
  4. Discuss the role, function and styles of mediation and negotiation in managing conflict 2
  5. Utilise a range of methods to intervene in conflict situation in group and organisational life
  6. Demonstrate skills of conflict management in organisational life
  7. Present an analytical framework for understanding and managing conflict in group or organisational contexts
  8. Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses associated with their personal style of conflict management in group or organisational contexts
  9. Demonstrate good practice in managing conflict in group or organisational contexts

The course is delivered on Thursdays and over 4 Saturdays from January to May. A high level of commitment is required.

FET Credit 

Every FET certificate and component specification includes an FET credit value. FET credit is quantified in multiples of 5 FET credits (up to 50 hours of learner effort). Learner effort is based on the time taken by typical learners at the level of the award to achieve the learning outcomes for the award. It includes all learning time involved including: guided learning hours, self-directed learning and assessment.
