This a compulsory module for The Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education QQI Level 5 major award.

Course Description

The purpose of this module is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to provide for the health and well-being of children, and maintain healthy, hygienic and safe practices and environments in a range of early childhood care and education (ECCE) settings. 

Programme Description 

Safety: features of a safe environment, guidelines for outings, hygiene and safety issues for managing pets, emergency procedures, first aid Health: personal care routines, infection- routes/prevention, immunisation programme, signs/symptoms of an unwell child. 

Feeding babies and children, balanced diet, dietary needs, feeding a baby, feeding abnormalities, healthy snack foods, daily food intake log etc

Course Content

Objective of Course The Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education QQI Level 5 is a major award made up of 8 modules and leads to a nationally recognized qualification for those wishing to pursue a career in Childcare. Each module carries a value of 15 credits, giving a total of 120 credits for the full award. Entry Requirements Leaving Certificate or equivalent, or Mature students, or work experience in a relevant area in lieu of qualification together with a strong interest in the provision of quality care and education for children. Students must have 80% attendance to be entered for certification. Students must complete 60 hours of work placement in a Registered Setting (TUSLA) to attain the Work Experience module. Students must pass both sections of the Work Experience module In order to gain the final award (including work experience placement). Placement contact is required to complete course work in most modules.
