The employment of accounting and financial technicians is one of the highest growth rates among business and finance occupations.

The Certificate for Accounting Technicians is designed to give you a solid grounding in business as well as a strong foundation in accountancy. It is the first step on your journey to a new and rewarding career as an Accounting Technician. The Certificate prepares you to carry out basic accounting tasks in the workplace and allows you to progress on to the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

Accounting Technicians enjoy excellent career prospects and there is always a strong demand for their skills in the marketplace. They can work in a wide variety of finance roles for many types of organisations, including manufacturing companies, local and central government, the health service, banks and insurance companies, and private accountancy firms.Self-employment is also a possibility for qualified technicians. In addition, many who qualify as Accounting Technicians go on to continue their studies, using the qualification as a stepping stone to eventually becoming professional accountants with one of the other accounting bodies.

A qualified Accounting Technician will be able to:

  • Prepare financial statements.
  • Prepare financial reports and other management information.
  • Compute tax liabilities for companies and for individuals.
  • Set up and manage systems for budgets, stock control, cost accounting, cash reconciliation.
  • Set up and manage credit control procedures.
  • Use computers effectively in a business environment.

Course Overview

The charge of €700 is the GTI tuition fee. Full payment is required to secure your place on the course. Details of ATI registration fees can be found below.

The course commences Monday, 13th September 2021. The course is delivered on Monday (GTI) and Wednesday (Online) evenings from 6:30 pm to 10.00 pm, from September 2021 to May 2022.

Entry Requirements: 

Students over 21 Years of Age - If you are over 21 years of age you can apply to enrol as a student on the basis of your age rather than on your educational background.

Students under 21 Years of Age Must Meet One of the following criteria:

  • A fully completed relevant QQI Level 5 qualification.
  • Leaving Certificate with five passes on Ordinary Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy).
  • Leaving Certificate with four passes of which at least two are on Higher Level papers. (Passes to include English and either Mathematics or Accountancy).

Students who have successfully completed Business Management QQI Level 6 may apply for an exemption to the Accounting Technician of Ireland. 

Students will receive a Certificate upon successful completion of Year 1. Students will receive a Diploma in Accounting Technician upon successful completion of Year 2 plus 2 years work experience.

The award is comparable to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in the Republic of Ireland.
