Accounting Technicians are qualified to work in many accountancy roles with strong demand for qualified accounting technicians in the workplace. The employment of accounting and financial technicians is one of the highest growth rates among business and finance occupations.

The Certificate for Accounting Technicians is designed to give you a solid grounding in business as well as a strong foundation in accountancy. It is the first step on your journey to a new and rewarding career as an Accounting Technician. The Certificate prepares you to carry out basic accounting tasks in the workplace and allows you to progress on to the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

Accounting Technicians enjoy excellent career prospects and there is always a strong demand for their skills in the marketplace. They can work in a wide variety of finance roles for many types of organisations, including manufacturing companies, local and central government, the health service, banks and insurance companies, and private accountancy firms. Self-employment is also a possibility for qualified technicians. In addition, many who qualify as Accounting Technicians go on to continue their studies, using the qualification as a stepping stone to eventually becoming professional accountants with one of the other accounting bodies.

A qualified Accounting Technician will be able to:

  • Prepare financial statements.
  • Prepare financial reports and other management information.
  • Compute tax liabilities for companies and for individuals.
  • Set up and manage systems for budgets, stock control, cost accounting, and cash reconciliation.
  • Set up and manage credit control procedures.
  • Use computers effectively in a business environment.

Course Overview

This is a 26-week course.

€750 is the GTI tuition fee. Payment in full secures your place on the course.

The course commences Tuesday, 19th September 2023. The course is delivered on Tuesday (Online) and Wednesday (GTI) evenings from 6:30 pm to 10.00 pm, from September 2023 to May 2024. 

Course Schedule – Year 1 – Certificate for Accounting Technicians – September 2023 to May 2024

  • Tuesday – Business Law & Ethics – 7.00-8.30 pm (Online)
  • Tuesday – Business Management – Online 8.30-10.00 pm (Online)
  • Wednesday – Taxation 1 – GTI 6.30-8.00 pm (GTI)
  • Wednesday – Financial Accounting 1 – GTI 8.00-10.00 pm (GTI)

Entry Requirements: Qualifications

Leaving Certificate- five passes on ordinary level papers at Grade D or better, or four passes, of which at least two are on higher level papers at grade D or better. Passes must be obtained in English and Mathematics. Applications will be considered from mature learners (over 21) who do not meet the educational requirements. Learners who have successfully completed Business Management QQI Level 6 may apply for an exemption to the accounting Technician of Ireland.

Students who have successfully completed Business Management QQI Level 6 may apply for an exemption to the Accounting Technician of Ireland. 

Students will receive a Certificate upon successful completion of Year 1. Students will receive a Diploma in Accounting Technician upon successful completion of Year 2.

The award is comparable to Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) in the Republic of Ireland.

ATI Fees & Registration

It is the student’s responsibility to register directly with the Institute and these fees are separate and are not included in the course tuition fees payable to GTI
