When I started the Furniture Design course at Galway Technical Institute I did not know much about Furniture at all.The course gave me a great introduction to woodworking, covering many aspects from sharpening hand tools to woodturning. It is a hands-on course with much time dedicated to workshop use and the manufacturing and restoring of furniture. The theoretical part was not neglected either. In my time it was Irish furniture history, coupled with a visit to Bunratty Folk Park, which was a highlight of the year. Besides that, Communications, Computer Aided Drawing and Art classes are part of the curriculum and are a good preparation for further studies. After finishing the course in Galway it seemed quite natural to continue studying in GMIT Letterfrack, which was not such a big step up since my time at GTI prepared me well for it. www.jenskosak.com
