YEAR 1 - Helen Geraghty

GTI offers courses that help students prepare for the real working world as many of the courses require students to complete a work experience module. This helps students to gain hands on experience. It is a friendly college where the teachers help students as much as possible with the work on the course.

The Beauty Therapy course requires students to do work experience in GTI's Poise Salon and also out house work experience in a salon or spa. This really helped me with improving my confidence with clients and to practice the treatments for the practical exams. The small class groups helped me to get to know my class mates and it gives the teachers a chance to help everyone. There are a lot of practical classes in the course which made it a lot more interesting for me. The course also includes Anatomy and Physiology and Business Studies modules.

The college advises on the many career choices after the Beauty Therapy course such as cruise ships, salons, spas. The course prepares you for any of these options.

YEAR 2 - Deirdre Heneghan

Beauty at GTI was a very enjoyable learning experience for me. The hands on approach to learning with a great support system for students suited me very well. In the first year I found the experience on Fridays at our in house salon working on clients very useful. It helped me gain confidence for working independently in a salon.

Second year consisted of gaining experience in “out house” salon which gave me a great opportunity to build up my experience and form a working relationship with the salon. A two week work experience in Tenerife in a luxury spa, gave me the once in a life time opportunity to help me develop my skills. GTI was the perfect building block to my future career as a professional beauty therapist.
